Caltrans District 8 is going to build a new Maintenance Facility, in Fontana, California. The purpose of this outreach is to inform potential contractors and designers that a Design-Build procurement method will be used and the Design-Build contract will be awarded for designing and constructing this facility. The estimated Design-Build contract is about $18 Million. The Design Build process involves shortlisting the Design Build firms through the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process. The RFQ has been released on January 31, 2020. Qualified Design Build firms will be shortlisted and the Request for Proposals will be released to these firms in April 2020.

Project Description The proposed Fontana Maintenance Station Project will be developed on a vacant 15.0-acre (approximately) lot. The northern portion (about 6.0 acres) is currently used as a renewable energy (solar panel) farm. The new maintenance facility will use approximately 6.6 acres of the southern portion of the lot. The new facility will be built to the Essential Service Act (ESA) and will include a Main Building Footprint less than 10,000 square feet. In addition, the project will include a separate Shop and Storage Facility of approximately 7,800 square feet, and a Vehicle Fueling Facility and Canopy. The remaining facility will include a Backup Generator, Covered Trash Enclosure, designated area for a Future Wash Rack, designated area for two Moveable Bridges, other miscellaneous site improvements and site parking. The remaining site area will consist of landscaping, site lighting and security, fencing, and storm water management improvements.
